The Return of the Pin Up Girl (a quick update)

Posted by Administrator on Jul 11, 2010 in Pin Up Girl Post its

As you may or may not have noticed, there has been a lot of updating going on in  the Pin Up Girl Files section of my Fashion Notebook (as in a new something every day updating)  I’ve been doing a lot of research into the finer points of what makes the Pin Up/Rockabilly style so unique, and I can’t wait until I find the time to put it all on here.   I’ve also been watching a lot of  ‘How to’ Videos on You Tube involving the Pin Up/ Rockabilly  hairstyles, of which my favorites have been added to my notes,  including an awesome video by Strawbery Koi Vintage on how to cut your own Betty Page Bangs.  Many of the hairstyles are not only quick, but easy and adorable, which is good for me because I am one lazy ass fashionista.

Also in my wanderings around the web looking for inspiration and insight, I ran across this cool little collage made by a user named sandrascloset at Polyvore.com.

If you are like me, a little fashion crazy, and consider putting together outfits a form of art (and these sets are without a doubt art in my book), then this site is definitely for you. It lets you make what they call  ‘sets’ like this one  from your favorite clothing and accessories. They remind me of what what I was cutting out of fashion magazines in my teens and pasting in my scrapbooks.  The sets are even interactive so you can click on the individual products to buy them.  I haven’t tried it out yet, but you can bet I’ll be wasting a lot of time playing around on this site in the future (which of course I’ll be posting in my Notebook).  I have a slight feeling that it might be the slightest bit addictive.

And in more news…

I’ve been up to a lot fashion-wise lately (I’m so proud of myself!!) Anyway I thought since there’s no one here to give me that little nudge I so often need to actually start a project, I’d make my twitter account do it.  After some inspiration from a few ‘themed’ accounts I’ve discovered, I’ve decided to  change my boring ‘linked to facebook’ of a twitter account into an update for ‘The Current State of my Dressform‘  (see sidebar to the right) where I pretty much just tell you what’s going on with my dress form. I think it’ll be a good way to keep me on my toes. (fingers crossed)  If you feel like adding it to your collection of ‘tweets’ you follow, I imagine you might be mildly entertained.  And that’s all I’ve got “Quick Update” wise for today.  Stay Tuned.. I’ve got a lot I’m trying uber hard not to procrastinate about.

Love ya! Ashlie

List of things to do to Spoil Yourself Sexy

Posted by Administrator on Apr 15, 2010 in Pin Up Girl Post its

IT doesn’t have a lot to do with Fashion, True. But It has a lot to do with the Amazon beneath the clothes.  I came up with a list of Ten very simple things to do every day to that will energize me and make me feel good to be alive. Life is hectic, and it’s not hard to get wrapped up in the million things we have going on in our life.  When the days start running together and you feel like you’ve just run a marathon after just getting out of bed it’s definitely time to make some changes. On any given day  I do a mixture of  maybe half of these things. As a reminder to myself I decided to put them on the wall in my dressing room.  And I’ve got a Pin Up Girl Theme in said room so I got a little creative.

I downloaded it to my Blog (obviously)  so you can print it out and use it too.

If you want to make your own in the same style: Click on the Pin up Girl Art Page in the Pin up Girl Section, Pick an Artist (I used Gil Elvgrin) Find a Picture you like, load it to Photoshop, Paint, or the like, and add your list right over the top of it in a contrasting color to the background. Print out and Tack to your wall.

P.S. and F.Y.I

I don’t want to explain everything on the list because that could make a short novel, but what I do want to cover quickly is when I say don’t Tolerate anything in the list it doesn’t mean it in the traditional/conventional sense. This is what I mean: Tolerances in my book are small things you deal with everyday (Like a button missing from your shirt, a light burned out in your closet, or the fact my headlights are literally duct taped to my car right now) that don’t seem like a big deal. But these small annoyances add up and take away a lot energy you could be using for something else. And generally we tolerate these little things, and rarely take the few minutes (usually) it would take to fix them. So by not tolerating these things, I’m fixing them as I run across them. And, let me tell you- it makes a world of difference.

Steam Punk Update: Sherlock Holmes

Posted by Administrator on Jan 4, 2010 in SteamPunk Posts

I know I’m yet to get my SteamPunk section of my Notebook Posted, but I didn’t want that minor detail to stop me from from RAVING about Rachel McAdams wardrobe in the film Sherlock Holmes.  After this, and the article that the New York Times put out a little while ago- I’m pretty sure my beloved passion that is Steampunk is hitting the Mainstream. If you love a good Guy Richie film you won’t be disappointed.  I do have to warn you that although the film is directed by Mr. Richie, the script wasn’t written by him. So you can expect only one plot line, and child friendly language.  You still however will be delighted to know that Bareknuckle boxing and gambling are still present in the film.  If you love turn of the century, Neo Victorian clothing, and have been looking for some fresh inspiration here’s a sneak peak at what Ms. McAdams wears in the film:

Wouldn't you like to know who gave me these Roses?

Wouldn't you like to know who gave me these Roses?

I look way better in this suit then you do, Sherlock.

I was sad that I couldn’t find a picture of the boots that she wears somewhere in the last half of the film…they are awesome. I want a pair!!

Classic Pin Up Girls

Posted by Administrator on Nov 30, 2009 in Pin Up Girl Post its

QUICK UPDATE!!!

If you look above this lovely Blog post, you’ll see  a navigation bar with a happy little yellow tag that says “Pin Up Girl”  I decided on the pin up girl section first because that is my current obsession. I’ve been learning how to do the make up and the hair (which is a historic moment in itself because I have up until now never put any effort into learning hair or make-up specifics, not even for acting- I did not admit that.) And gushing over the cute clothes.  I’m even keeping my fingers crossed that Santa will bring me hot rollers and a make up kit this year for christmas.

NYTimes: How to Be a Pin Up girl

NYTimes: How to Be a Pin Up girl

I was delighted to find an Article in the New York Times a few weeks ago about how to be a Pin up Girl. While it’s not exactly the version I’m going for, it is still a very interesting article, with some cute ideas.  You can see the slide show here, or read the article here.

that’s all for now folks, I have a math final in about seven hours.

quick BTW: If you want to contribute to me being able to have more time to work on this, my passion in life, you can donate to my paypal account on the main section of ScorpiosAttic.com It’ll help keep my site running, and contribute to me having to work less at my dead end job and more on the things that really matter…like posting everything from my Fashion Notebook online, creating new DiYs or Graphic Tees, and of course still have time for homework… and my friends wonder why I’m always busy. :p

About the Notebook o’Fashion

Posted by Administrator on Nov 12, 2009 in About Scorpios Attic

I started Scorpios Attic back in 2003 as an excuse to indulge in my love of everything fashion as well as the art of DiY. My Fashion Notebook is an extention of that.  The notebook is just my collection of Pictures, refrences, links, and notes on different types of fashion and the cultures (and counter cultures) that they spring from as well as any notes on anything I feel like making note about. It is directly connected to my Fashion Blog, which is for rants, raves, and a place to showcase my recent creations.  This however, as the direct result of my research, is all from other sources. I do my best to credit where credit is due, if in my excitement I miss one and you notice (and know who to whom the credit belongs) please let me know and I will fix it. Please also feel free to join in with comments, constructive critisim, or suggestions you might have for more info on a certain subject.  Enjoy!
